Biggleswade has a twin town - Erlensee near Frankfurt  in Germany.

The Twinning Charter  was signed in Biggleswade Market Square during an official visit over the May 2000 Bank Holiday weekend. A second signing ceremony took  place in Erlensee over the August 2000 Bank Holiday weekend.  A coach full of people from Biggleswade attended.
In both towns much has been done to recognise the twinning. All approaches to Biggleswade have signs announcing it and a tree was planted to commemorate it. Hopefully copies of the Charter will soon displayed publicly but meanwhile ask at the Town Council Office (next to the Library). In Erlensee they have named a new street Biggleswade Strasse.
Several organisations in our towns have made contact and arranged exchanges. In particular the Youth Clubs and Athletic Clubs. Erlensee runners take part in the "Sandy 10" race and Biggleswade members enter events in Germany.
There is a Twinning float in the carnival each year and some of our German friends take part.
Students from Erlensee come to the town in November for work experience.
In December twinners serve mulled wine and German cakes from a stall during the Christmas Light Switch on.
